Expecting a baby is a very important time in every woman’s life. In addition to the exciting anxiety of expectation, pregnancy also brings a number of changes in a woman’s body. Pregnancy itself is not a disease but a normal physiological condition of every woman, although the changes bring with them a number of discomforts and often pain.
The massage usually lasts a maximum of 45 minutes, but it may depend on how the pregnant woman is feeling and the time left until the birth. This time is quite enough to reduce the swelling of the legs and find relief from tension. Before the massage, I always recommend that you talk about your health condition and, of course, thoroughly fill in the history, which will give the specialist a thorough overview of the potential risks.
Important things to keep in mind:
Start the massage in the second trimester. There is an increased risk of miscarriage during the first three months of pregnancy, so we recommend starting the massage at the beginning of the second trimester. The massage is usually performed in a lateral position, giving the client and the child a comfortable and completely safe lying position by supporting them with different pillows. The massage area is selected according to the client’s wishes and complaints. The lower back and sacrum are not massaged during pregnancy.
Indications:
- Relieves neck and back pain and discomfort
- Helps reduce swelling in the hands and feet
- Soothes and reduces stress by increasing the hormones serotonin and dopamine
- Improves sleep
Contraindications:
- first trimester
- maternal age <18 and> 35 years
- multiple pregnancy;
- abortion of a previous pregnancy or previous problems with the current pregnancy;
- cervical problems;
- abnormal fetal heart rate;
- decreased or absent fetal movements;
- intrauterine developmental delay;
- suspected rhesus conflict or other genetic problem;
- low weight gain;
- maternally diagnosed asthma, diabetes, heart disease, chronic high blood pressure, anemia, epilepsy, lung or liver disease
- mother’s malnutrition; drug or alcohol use
First-time mothers in particular need to keep this in mind. By that time, the body has embraced the new citizen and there is no risk of miscarriage. For best results, we recommend a massage two to four times a month, but here too the best advisor is feeling good. In the case of a normal pregnancy, the massage can be performed until the end of the pregnancy.
